The Directorate General for International Cooperation (DGIS) of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the main donor in the Africa Biogas Partnership Programme in the six African countries. DGIS has been involved in funding national bio-digesters since 1992 in Asia.
The financial contribution of DGIS amounts to €30 million, covering approximately one third of the total programme costs. And due to its status, it offers support in working with national governments and institutions in promoting the programme in the respective countries. Where necessary, through local Dutch embassies, DGIS plays a facilitating role between parties at the national level.
